Winter Retreat at Five Oaks Retreat Centre
January 22nd – 24th, 2016
There is a hushed magic in the darkest time of the year. Time spent moving more deeply inward is a gift we can receive from the long dark period of winter. Yoga practice in the winter can be more internal and subtle in order for us to recognize the regeneration of our core energy. Meditation and reflection will also be used to replenish our energy in this peaceful setting.
During this retreat we will offer daily yoga and meditation sessions suitable for all levels, take time for rest, reflection and being in nature, walk the indoor labyrinth together and take part in other group activities in front of a cozy fireplace.
Fee: $380.00 – private room, all meals and full program. To register, please contact Five Oaks Retreat Centre by clicking here.
It’s almost Hallowe’en. Time to dress up the kids, grandkids, pets and maybe ourselves! Hallowe’en has become a huge commercial enterprise in our culture. Some love it, some hate it. Since moving to an apartment, we don’t get any trick-or-treaters anymore and we don’t carve a pumpkin either. I do have a few decorations from when our daughter was small. It used to be an exciting time but also kind of bizarre. I like to remember that Hallowe’en has deep roots back to Pagan times and the festival of Samhain – pronounced “Sow-in”, literally “summer’s end.” It marks the end of one agricultural year and the beginning of another. It is considered a potent time, the New Year. The coming darkness is not to be feared but rather embraced as a time of reflection and planting seeds for the upcoming months.
Our yoga practice also offers time for reflection. We still need to move to keep warm, maintain the health of our body’s systems and stay open in the contracted season of the year. But we can add in moments of stillness where we tap into something larger than ourselves, to the Eternal always present and pulsing with life. Resting here, we can renew and refresh ourselves, be open to inspiration and to our own inner light.
